Nancy A. Newton
Fifth term expires

Board President Nancy Newton is a staunch supporter of public education and legislation affecting the youth of California. Since 1988 she has served on the Delegate Assembly of the California Schools Boards Association. Mrs. Newton is also CSBA Goverment Relations chair to Senator Joe Simitian. Her community activities include past president of the Sunnyvale Chamber of Commerce and Cupertino/Fremont Council of PTA, Santa Clara County School Boards Association, Euphrat Museum Board-De Anza College and the Northwest YMCA Board. Mrs. Newton has worked part-time as an instructor at Santa Clara University.

Homer H.C. Tong

Board Vice President Homer H.C. Tong teaches chemistry at De Anza College in Cupertino. Mr. Tong is an active volunteer in the community participating in PTA, the West Valley Chinese Language School, YMCA Basketball Program, American Youth Soccer Organization, and church groups.

Bill Wilson

Board Clerk Bill Wilson graduated from Princeton University with a Bachelor’s Degree in mathematics. He received his Masters Degree and Ph.D in mathematics from Harvard University. He taught college level mathematics for nine years. Bill then embarked on a career in computer and network security. He served on government policy making groups in information security and participated in groups setting national research objectives. In 1988 Bill founded Arca Systems, one of the first companies specializing in information security. He served as the CEO and Chairman of the Board of Arca Systems where he played an active role recruiting a world class staff of information security engineers and researchers. He guided Arca through 10 successful years and then negotiated its acquisition by Exodus Communications where he served as an executive running research and consulting groups. For the last five years, Bill has been advising new companies on areas such as product strategy, funding, and executive recruiting. Bill has also been active in youth sports and other youth activities and has served as a coach for baseball and soccer teams and as President of Cupertino National Little League.

Barbara F. Nunes

Board Member Barbara Nunes was employed for 37 years by the Fremont Union High School District as a business teacher, career resource teacher, District coordinator, and as Principal of Cupertino High School. She has also served as an adjunct professor in the SJSU Urban High School Leadership Program for administrative credential candidates; as co-director of Tomorrow's Leaders Today (a community program for teens); and as a representative on the National Merit Scholarship Advisory Board. She continues to serve as a consultant to the State Department of Education and the Accrediting Commission for Schools as a trainer of schools and visiting teams in the accrediting process — Focus on Learning. Barbara also currently serves as a board member for Cupertino Community Services and the Lady of Fatima Skilled Nursing/Assisted Living Facility.

Hung Wei

Board Member Hung Wei has resided in our district since 1981. Hung came to the United States from Taiwan in 1979 to study at the University of California, Los Angeles. She received a Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language from UCLA in 1980, and went on to finish her Master of Arts Degree in Teaching English as a Second Language in 1982. As her children attended elementary, middle, and high school, Hung volunteered in many school activities as well as community charitable organizations. She was PTA co-president and started and chaired the Scrip Program at Lincoln Elementary School. She again started and co-chaired the Scrip Program at Portal Elementary School and served on Portal’s School Site Council. At Monta Vista High School, Hung was PTA co-presidents for two years, served as PTA 1st Vice President, chaired PTA Parent Seminar, was chair to Teacher Appreciation, started and co-chaired the Monta Vista Job Shadow Program, sponsored and has been the advisor to a brand new student-run newsletter Monta Vista Verdadera/Truthfully. Hung is also a board member and past-president of the Fremont Union High Schools Foundation, as well as a board member on the Board of Managers of the Northwest YMCA in Cupertino.
