Digital SAT Exam
Email sent to 10th and 11th Grade Families on Dec. 4, 2023
This message is to notify you of the sales/purchase process for the SAT college-readiness exam that FUHSD will be hosting on March 18, 2024 at all five of our primary school sites. College Board has shifted this exam to be a digital test and we will be offering this exam to 10th/11th grade students for this in-school testing opportunity. Due to College Board restrictions, this is the only FUHSD-hosted in-school SAT testing option available for spring 2024.
Students are not required to take this exam. Please review your college application plans to determine whether the college/university to which you are applying will require an SAT score for admissions (e.g. CSU and UC schools don’t require SAT scores for admissions). The exam is being offered with the intended audience of 11th grade students, although we are expanding access to 10th graders. Below are important dates for your planning around this exam:

The SAT exam is $80 per student ($10 for income eligible students). All exam purchases will be made through the Infinite Campus store. There will be no refunds issued for this exam purchase so only purchase this test if you plan on taking the exam. The majority of students in FUHSD who sign up for this exam will be taking the exam at their primary school. However, there may be some exceptions where students may need to take the exam at an alternate location due to space constraints. Any student with an alternate location assignment will be notified by mid-February.
The SAT digital exam is administered through the Bluebook App. All students need to provide their own computer with this application downloaded in advance of the testing date or check out a school-provided Chromebook in advance of the test. Students are responsible for ensuring that their device is fully charged prior to testing.
The College Board has yet to release fall 2024 testing plans for in-school testing. Once we receive information from the College Board about the SAT testing timelines then we will notify students and families in order to plan accordingly. FUHSD will offer weekend testing options during the school year 2024-25 and our 11th grade students will be guaranteed a seat during our testing schedule.
Additional information will be forthcoming from your school regarding site-specific testing details.
Advanced Placement (AP) Exams
Through college-level Advanced Placement courses, students are exposed to knowledge that might otherwise remain unexplored in high school. Through AP Exams, they have the opportunity to earn credit or advanced standing at most of the nation’s colleges and universities. The College Board, a non-profit association based in New York City, runs the AP program. AP courses offered vary at each high school.
AP Exam Registration
Registration for AP exams will be from September 11 through September 29. This early registration window is mandated by College Board for all AP programs, and is not the decision of FUHSD or its schools. AP exams will take place from May 6 to May 17, 2024.
We realize this registration timeline is very early in the school year, so we encourage students to talk over their exam decisions with their family, teachers and trusted adults. Students should consider their confidence in the course content, overall workload, post-secondary plans and their other commitments in the spring when deciding whether or not to take an AP exam. Some colleges and universities require that students taking AP courses take the corresponding exam. The exam fee is $120 for regular format exams and $130 for special format (World Language, Music Theory, Studio Art) exams. There will be no late registration, so students will need to plan carefully.
There are some exams that are considered “low demand” exams and will only be offered if there are enough sign-ups. “Low demand” exam details are provided here. Additionally, there are some exams that are only open to students for restricted purchase (e.g. Computer Science Principles, and Studio Art). Restricted purchase exam details are provided here.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Why does FUHSd charge more than College Board for AP Exam Fees?
- Are there scholarships or fee waivers for AP exam fees?
- Do I have to take the AP Exam if I am enrolled in an AP Class?
- Why is the AP exam registration so early this year?
Why does FUHSd charge more than College Board for AP Exam Fees?
Exam fees cover the cost of administering the exams and the cost of the College Board exams. FUHSD administers over 10,000 exams each year while school is in session, which requires significant additional personnel, facilities, and equipment. The biggest expenses for AP exams in FUHSD are the College Board exam fees and personnel. We work hard to run an efficient testing program in order to keep costs down, while maintaining a safe and supportive testing environment for students.
Are there scholarships or fee waivers for AP exam fees?
Do I have to take the AP Exam if I am enrolled in an AP Class?
While FUHSD does not require that students enrolled in an AP class take the corresponding AP exam, some colleges and universities might. You should research the colleges and universities, and your intended major, for specific requirements. Exam preparation is part of the AP class curriculum regardless of whether or not you choose to register for the exam.
Why is the AP exam registration so early this year?
College Board changed their processes this year so that AP exam orders are now placed in the fall. FUHSD did not have a choice about moving the registration process to the fall. A team of staff from all schools in the district worked together to design a registration process and timeline that would allow for students to settle in to their classes before making decisions about AP exams, and for us to communicate with students and families about these changes through teachers, AP class visits, Back to School Night, and parent communications.
California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CASSPP)
What is CAASPP?
CAASPP stands for the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress. This series of tests replaced the STAR program. CAASPP includes the following state assessments for high school students:
Grades 10, 11, or 12 (assigned by the state to each school): Calfornia Science Standards Test (CAST)
Grade 11: Smarter Balanced Assessment or California Alternate Assessment (Cal-Alt)
California Alternate Assessment
This assessment (sometimes called CAA or Cal-Alt) is designed for 11th grade students who are deemed eligible by their IEP team, and is administered in a one-to-one setting by a trained, certificated teacher. It is a computer-based test aligned to the Core Content Connectors (CCCs), alternate achievement standards which are linked to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in English-Language Arts and mathematics. It replaces the California Alternate Performance Assessment (CAPA) which was part of the STAR testing program.
Results for the Cal-Alt in English-Language Arts and Mathematics will be published later this summer. Student score reports will be sent home in late August/early September. The Cal-Alt in Science was a pilot test in Spring 2017 and no results are available.
For more information, visit the CDE website.
CAASPP Results and College Readiness
1th graders taking the Smarter Balanced assessments receive information about their readiness for college-level work. This information is based on results from the Smarter Balanced assessments and indicates college readiness as one of three status categories:
Ready for College
Overall achievement Level 4, Standard Exceeded
Conditionally Ready for College
Overall achievement Level 3, Standard Met
Not Ready for College
Overall achievement Level 2, Standard Nearly Met or Level 1, Standard Not Met
