Math Advisory Council

Application for Math Advisory Council Parent Volunteers

Fremont Union High School District’s Math Advisory Council includes a representation of teachers, administrators, parents and community members, and feeder-district leaders.   Meetings take place at least three times per year and parents are asked to participate for two years. The Council began meeting in the 2014-15 school year, and advises the District on issues including:

  • What math courses and course sequences will be offered in FUHSD once we’ve fully transitioned to the Common Core State Standard?

  • How are high school courses articulated with middle school and post-secondary programs?

  • What opportunities need to be in place for students who need additional support, as well as for students who want to accelerate their learning?

  • What courses should be required of all students for graduation?

  • What do our various student achievement measures tell us about FUHSD students’ math preparation and their readiness for college and career?

  • How will FUHSD’s math courses and course sequences support implementation of the Next Generation Science Standards and new emphasis on college and career preparation?

  • What kinds of parent education and student counseling will be needed to help families understand what math sequences are best for each student’s college and career goals?

The Advisory Council will meet at least three times before the end of this school year and members should be available for all three meetings.  The first three meetings have been scheduled as follows:

  • Monday, November 27 from 4:30-7:30 pm (with dinner)

  • Monday, January 29 from  4:30-7:30 pm (with dinner)

  • Monday, April 30 from 4:30-7:30 pm (with dinner)

Additional meetings may be scheduled if the Council determines it is necessary.

If we have greater interest than can be accommodated, members will be selected to represent a variety of perspectives and experiences.

The application window is now closed. Thank you for your interest. Applicants can expect to receive an update via the email address they provided by Wednesday, November 15.
