Long Range Plan The 2004-2005 school year brought major challenges
to the Fremont Union High School District. Superintendent
Dr. Steve Rowley and staff diverted time and energy from targeted objectives and goals in the Long Range Plan to meet District needs such as the financial crisis, student registration/verification process, and negotiations. The District was very successful in meeting these challenges and is now able to set sights on the goals of its Long Range Plan this school year. Priorities include:
- Making the school and classroom experience more relevant and engaging so that every student finds greater academic success and personal fulfillment.
- Attacking the roots of academic frustration for those less inclined for immediate success, especially in "gatekeeper" classes such as Algebra.
- Accelerating the progress of English Learners.
- Strengthening the modern language program and expanding Chinese course offerings.
- Expanding the support for teacher leadership through school-based professional development and coaching.
- Making school improvement planning and implementation more robust.
BACKGROUND: The Long Range Plan is the result of many months of work by literally hundreds of teachers, classified employees, administrators, students, parents, and community members. This team provided significant input to the broad vision for the District and to the specific objectives the District wants to accomplish over the next few years. It was the intention to create a Long Range Plan that would be flexible to the needs of the District’s students, staff, and community over time. The four Visionary Goals will remain constant, but the objectives may change. It is natural for priorities to shift as new challenges arise that can not be foreseen today. The Long Range Plan was adopted by the Board of Trustees in July 2004.
