Fremont Union High School District
INTRA-DISTRICT COUNCIL
Student Leaders from Cupertino, Fremont, Homestead, Lynbrook & Monta Vista High Schools

Intra-District Council, IDC is an organization comprised of the representatives of the five schools of the
Fremont Union High School District. Each school is represented by their ASB President and two IDC representatives.
In addition, An IDC President, the Student Board Member, and the Advisor sit on this council. IDC meets twice a month usually the first and third Mondays. The goal of IDC is to improve relations between schools, to lessen some of the rivalry that
sports create.  IDC also works to implement some of the programs that students want.  Any problems that the school’s
ASs or the students themselves have are discussed at IDC meetings.

5/6/08 Student Board Report by JingJing Xia, Cupertino High School Senior

It’s almost the last stretch! Students have one month until summer and are keeping busy with AP tests, proms, and the upcoming finals.

MONTA VISTA HIGH SCHOOL
Last month Monta Vista hosted two events that they wanted to share. The first was the Day of Silence on April 25th. This is a national event where students and teachers take a day-long vow of silence to protest against harassment towards lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender students. This event has taken place at Monta Vista for several years.  •  The second event was Diversity Day. During the day, a paper-crane origami booth was set up in the quad and over 1000 paper-cranes were collected at the end of the day to be sent to the city of Hiroshima.  •  Monta Vista’s junior class will be hosting Pasta Night on May 21 and invites everyone to come.  •  Lastly, MV would like to recognize Vivian Ye and Alice Lee for an excellent job at the last FBLA competition.

LYNBROOK HIGH SCHOOL
Lynbrook would also like to congratulate the finalists that made it to the FBLA Nationals.   •  Two weekends ago, Lynbrook hosted a two-day CMEA orchestra festival which was very well received. CMEA stands for California Association for Music Education.  •  Currently, everybody is busy with AP tests. Seniors are also looking forward to Senior Prom in the San Francisco Bay, aboard the Horn blower yacht, on May 17th (same day as Cupertino’s).

HOMESTEAD HIGH SCHOOL
While some schools may send one or two finalists to FBLA Nationals, Homestead wanted to congratulate all 52 FBLA students who qualified for nationals this year. What an achievement! (And Homestead continues to dominate in FBLA…)  •  Like many of the other schools in April, Homestead also hosted an Ethnic Week. From April 28th to May 2nd, there were performances by different ethnic clubs. Two of the week’s favorites were a Tahitian group dance and an African drum simulation during brunch. One day of the week was also devoted to food from different cultures and Friday was the traditional Ethnic Rally.  •  Finally, Homestead wanted to congratulate Danielle Mendoza and Saki Uemera, the girls who came in first at the IDC Talent Show a few weeks ago. They did an original, acoustic version of the songs Realize by Colbie Caillat and Don’t Matter by Akon. • Homestead also wanted to give a shout out to last year’s winner Marissa Muraoka and Samantha Perry who did another fantastic job at this year’s show.

FREMONT HIGH SCHOOL
Fremont also held its International Week last month. Performances came from the South Asian Club, the Latinas club, and even one from the Pokemon Club. Just like Homestead, one day was also reserved for different types of food from different cultures.  • Fremont ASB also held its 2nd blood drive on April 14th.  •  ASB also hosted a new event called “Fremont’s Best New Dance Competition,” which was inspired by MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew.

CUPERTINO HIGH SCHOOL
Cupertino had its second blood drive on April 28th and had roughly 150 participants. Of those, about 120 units of blood were connected.  •  Junior Prom was on the 25th in downtown Campbell at Villa Regusa and Senior Prom will be this month on the 17th aboard the Galaxy Yacht in San Francisco.   •  One huge event that is coming up for Cupertino is its 50th Anniversary. The 50th Anniversary will also double as a Hall of Fame rally and IDC Exchange date for the rest of the district. So, it’s huge. Traditionally, each class chooses one of the Hall-of-Famers and honors that particular person during the rally. In addition, the school’s 50th anniversary will be celebrated during this rally. This will take place on May 23rd, beginning at roughly 10AM in the gym. Everyone is welcome to attend!!
