Powerful Teaching

Great Students

The five high schools of the Fremont Union High School District --- Cupertino, Fremont, Homestead, Lynbrook, and Monta Vista --- joyfully serve nearly 11,000 students from the cities of Cupertino, Los Altos, San Jose, Santa Clara, Saratoga, and Sunnyvale.  The Adult and Community Education program serves an additional 22,000 students in part-time programs offered at a variety of venues throughout our community.

Powerful History Teacher

Who is the best history teacher in the State of California? That would be none other than Monta Vista High School teacher Bonnie Belshe who was selected by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History as the 2014 California History Teacher of the Year.  A panel of teachers and administrators from throughout California chose Bonnie for her use of primary documents in the classroom, the level of inspiration that Bonnie provides to her students, and her career achievements in education.  Bonnie epitomizes the educational excellence that abounds in the Fremont Union High School District.

Bonnie was celebrated and honored at a recognition ceremony that took place at Monta Vista High School on November 3, 2014.  In addition to receiving a certificate from the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, Bonnie received commendations from Bill Wilson, President of the Board of Trustees of the Fremont Union High School District, as well as from representatives of the offices of Congressman Mike Honda and Assemblyman Paul Fong.  Monta Vista High School students and staff also shouted Bonnie’s praises.  Congratulations, Bonnie!
