June 3, 2010

2009-2010 school year has been a productive and rewarding year!

All 28 PTA units in the Council are active and making great contributions to their schools and communities. Thirteen of our units have received the State PTA Membership Challenge Awards for growing their membership by 5% or more. Congratulations to Columbia Middle PTA for winning the Council Membership Challenge by increasing their membership with the highest percentage. Congratulations to Montclaire Elementary PTA for having the highest membership to student ratio at the amazing 90%. Council now has close to 13,000 members!

In addition, our Council has the most Reflections entries advanced to the 6th District and the State levels. Local PTA’s commitment to supplement arts education is evident and successful. 9 units have received Council Parent Education sponsorship for about $500 each, Council supports and promotes a better informed and educated parent community. More than 70 incoming PTA officers took advantages of the Council leadership training.  This is just the beginning of an on-going training and support Council offers. I am very proud that Council officers are working with unit PTA leaders to provide leadership and organization in support of local schools.

This year, Council and the units played important roles in support of the school districts. We provided communication, financial and volunteer support for the successful Their Future Is Now fundraising campaign which raised $2 million to save CUSD teachers’ jobs, and for the two FUHSD parcel tax measures. Council received recognition and appreciation from the FUHSD board after the strong passage of Measure B. These are the ultimate show of appreciation and support from our parents for our District!  Let’s continue to work and advocate on behalf of our students. Let’s help our teachers and administrators to maintain or do more with less financial means. Together, we can make a difference and overcome any challenge!

Have a great summer!
