Homestead High School is a nationally recognized four-year comprehensive high school with an enrollment of about 2,270 students. Opened in 1962, Homestead is located on the northwest boundary of the City of Cupertino but primarily serves students from the City of Sunnyvale. The Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) reaccredited the school in 2004. In 2003 Homestead was recognized for excellence by the California Department of Education as a California Distinguished School and has been designated by the state as a high performing school because of its high AYP and API index score. In 2004 Homestead was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School.

Homestead High School is proud to offer an extensive academic experience for all students. Completing the WASC endorsement process in spring of 2007, Homestead High School adds a six-year accreditation to the list of accomplishments, including the National Blue Ribbon and California Distinguished schools awards. The school bridges the complex communities of Cupertino and Sunnyvale California. The melding of high tech industries in a semi-urban environment provides students of Homestead with unique opportunities in an academic setting. The students reflect this diversity in their ethnicities and their socio-economic and academic backgrounds. Providing a college preparatory education for all students allows the staff to embrace the challenges of meeting these diverse needs. The community of Homestead High School is committed to meeting the needs to all students, yet our focus is increasingly on developing the strategies and resources to better prepare our students who struggle academically.

The diversity of the student body population demands a rigorous and varied curriculum. Homestead High School offers over ten Advanced Placement courses, nine honors courses, multiple special education courses, three levels of English Learner classes (including a Newcomer course offered for the first time in 2007-08) and over six SDAIE courses for more advanced EL students.  Homestead also offers a series of ROP course offerings and over forty other elective course offerings to meet the UC A-G requirements and provide enriched educational opportunities for all students.

Homestead High School provides an outstanding co-curricular program, including its state and national award winning Future Business Leaders of America club. Students actively lead and participate in clubs and athletic teams, providing students an opportunity to be connected with school.

Three times yearly Homestead publishes an informational newsletter, the Gazette. This newsletter is mailed to parents in addition to being posted in its entirety on the school website. Current information is sent out weekly via email through the HHS Blast. Parents and students may access information and monitor academic performance through the Internet on A+ Board. Additionally, information on college and career planning is provided on the website as well as through evening programs.

School Facilities
Summary of Most Recent Site Inspection
Over the past five years, Homestead High School has undergone a complete modernization of its facility. All classroom areas, the cafeteria, gymnasiums, and auditorium have been renovated, and a new library, swimming pool, and music building addition have been completed. Two years ago a scoreboard was added in the aquatics center, an impressive mural and acoustics were added to the gymnasium, and a state-of-the-art sound system was installed in the auditorium. Today the school is comprised of 71 classrooms, 2 gyms, 1 student center, 1cafeteria, 1 library, 1 career center, 1 staff lounge, 1 auditorum, 2 dance/team rooms, and multiple athletic fields.

The principal works daily with six (6) full-time custodians to ensure that the cleaning of the school is maintained to provide for a clean and safe school. District maintenance staff ensures that the repairs necessary to keep the school in good repair are completed in a timely manner. The District rotates a “deep cleaning” crew at all campuses during breaks and over the summer. This custodial crew strips and waxes floors, cleans carpets, removes cobwebs off ceilings, washes windows, dusts blinds, pressure washes exteriors, and washes whiteboards and shelves. Additional carpet cleaning machines were purchased for the sites to help better maintain the classrooms year round. The District increased the work year from 11 to 12 months for the groundskeeper at each high school which has improved the field maintenance and curb appeal of each campus.
