Trisha Peterson, M.A. MFT
Tricia Peterson is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a private practice in
Pamela Ptacek, SELPA Director Santa Clara County SELPAss I, II, III, IV, & VII
Pamela Ptacek has extensive experience in special education administration and regularly conducts Individual Education Plan (IEP) process training sessions for parents. Her presentation will focus on the IEP components, the importance of completing components in correct order, the importance of education benefit, and how parents should document the discussion at an IEP.
Marci Schwartz, LCSW, Ph.D.
Dr. Schwartz' private practice is devoted to helping parents of children with autism and other developmental disabilities understand and cope with the issues surrounding parenting their special needs child. Come listen to Dr. Schwartz's perspective on dealing with the spectrum of emotions that parents go through, the impact on family dynamics, and the unique issues that siblings face.
Lt. Shawn Ahern, Sunnyvale Police Department
Lt. Shawn Ahern of the Sunnyvale Police Department trains the Sunnyvale Officers on responding to/intervening in situations involving disabled children. Please come and gain some insight on what to expect if an officer responds to a call involving your child or teenager, as well as what you can do to be prepared beforehand
Cheryl Bowers, Ph.D.
Dr. Bowers is a neuropsychologist with 28 years experience testing and evaluating children with a wide variety of disabilities. While serious disabilities are almost always identified in span class="yshortcuts">early childhood, less serious disabilities like ADHD and dyslexia can easily go un-diagnosed and un-treated for years while the child and family suffers. Also, some children have multiple diagnoses but a minor diagnosis can easily get missed. Dr. Bowers will talk about how to identify if your child is struggling with a minor disability and what you can do to ensure that your child gets the help he or she needs.
Lynn Muccigrosso
Lynn Muccigrosso/span> is chief consultant of Stiggall & Assoc., a private consulting firm that addresses the social-sexual education needs of students with disabilities, of all ages. Communicating with your sons and daughters about appropriate social-sexual behaviors and sexuality in general is best when it starts early and continues through life. It's essential for self esteem and personal safety! Getting clear about what this topic includes, and why it is so critically important, can be very motivating. This will be a group discussion, with much interaction, questions and answers
